Without getting into too much of a song and dance about how this book has impacted me, I feel it necessary to give a little background on myself in hopes of putting this book into better perspective for potential buyers. After completing his first feature film, he moved to Los Angeles where he has been Director of Photography on 14 feature films as well as national commercials, promotional films, industrials, music videos and documentaries.
The book is not just a comprehensive guide to current professional practice; it goes beyond to explain the theory behind the practice, so you understand how the rules came about and when it’s appropriate to break them. In addition, directors will benefit from the book’s focus on the body of knowledge they should share with their Director of Photography.

This has all been self-taught, reading 19 books, making multiple short films, corporate videos, working and making money in both my creative and business endeavors as a freelancer of sorts. I liked this one the best.
He has directed and edited features and commercials, worked as a producer and has had three screenplays produced. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Very informative, but feel free to jump around clnematography you have a background in still photography. Lavishly produced and illustrated, it covers the entire cinematograpphy of the profession. Not that the book isn’t informative about Cinematography and everything associated with it but the poor organization leaves something to be desired.

My only problem with this book were the numerous typos and grammatical errors in almost every chapter. While some aspects of visual language, lighting and color are eternal, shooting methods, workflow and cameras have changed radically.
